Interpersonal Skill
and Instructor Professionalism
Be an ambassador for the ACA and present the ACA in a positive light.
Represent qualifications honestly and provide ACA instruction only in areas qualified and certified by the ACA to perform.
Conduct business in a professional manner, e.g. fill out all necessary paperwork for the ACA office, report classes, and maintain membership - in a timely manner.
Establish and contribute to a positive learning environment that is open to a variety of viewpoints.
Maintain an open mind that avoids dogmatism and encourages innovation.
Exude and inspire confidence by setting an enthusiastic teaching example.
Provide feedback in an accurate, timely and encouraging manner.
Receive personal feedback in an open and positive manner. Try to avoid attaching an excuse, story, etc. to given feedback. Sometimes the best response is saying nothing at all or" Thank you. I will consider what you have said."
Arrive early to class; allow time for set-up, answering questions, a moment of relaxation, etc. Be observant of time throughout the class.
Be well prepared.
Maintain clear and professional boundaries. As an instructor you are in a position of power and influence relative to students. Be attuned to personal agendas, perceptions and expectations.
Observe the "respect people at all times" principle.
Dress neatly and appropriately for class. You are the face of the ACA.
Avoid speaking negatively of others.
When problems arise, be pro-active, with solutions vs. complaining, passing the buck or avoiding the issue.
Take ownership and responsibility for your actions and reactions.
Try not to take yourself too seriously and to continue to be a student.
Be the role model , particularly under pressure.
