Instructor Trainer Educator is the highest designation of Instructor in the American Canoe Association there are 240 nationally. Mike is one of the two people certified in all 3 paddling disciplines.

 

*BCU is the UK version of ACA and as it has a North American entity, it competes with the ACA for paddling instruction. A Coach is the BCU version of Instructor.

In order to become a Coach one has to certify in leadership , safety and rescue skills, as well as paddling skills, in a pass fail assessment. After these certifications one can be assessed as a Coach with much emphasis on trip leading in difficult conditions..

 

 

Each year since 1991 I have lead a six day trip down the Middle Fork Salmon in Idaho. The trip this year is Aug 7 – Aug. 12.

I am a registered Idaho Guide

 

We teach and lead trips with Sea Kayak Georgia on Tybee Island GA.  Kayak Carolina in Wilmington, NC., and Surf City NC, Coastal Kayak Co. of Fenwick Island DE and Connecticut Sea Kayak.

 

I continue as a student, my own Instructors and Coaches are the best qualified people I can find. Karen Knight, Bob Foote , Greg Mallet-Prevost, Kenny Guerrant , Ben Lawry, John Lull, Marce’ Wise , Chris Stec , Steve Scherrer and Dale Williams are some of my friends and respected fellow IT’s , Tom Berg, Tim Stamp, Gordon Brown, Nigel Law, Scot Fairty, Steve Maynard, Trys Morris,Nigel Foster and Peter Casson, are my BCU coaches. I work and co teach with these quality people as often as possible. The students I have been fortunate enough to coach and certify have all taught me something and the result is a network I am very proud to be a part of. I expect to keep learning from others and improving my abilities to help others learn.
